City recycling for businesses ended on January 1, 2026
The City of Kingston's recycling depot on Lappan's Lane closed permanently on January 1, 2026. It was the City's drop-off point for business recycling, and the City's household blue and grey box program does not cover businesses. The City's guidance now is that a business arranges its own recycling collection.
If your cardboard has been going to the depot in the back of a van, or piling up behind the shop since it closed, that is the problem the commercial route solves. Cardboard, containers and paper are collected on a set schedule, kept separate on the truck and sorted before anything is hauled.
Restaurants and retailers with daily cardboard, offices with weekly fibre, and property managers with several addresses all run on the same route. Tell Brock what you produce and he sets the frequency and the price on the call.
Switching is one call
Describe the business and roughly how much cardboard and recycling comes out each week. Brock sets the schedule and the price on the call, before anything is booked.
The route is a list of neighbours
Harper's Burger Bar, Peter's Place, Shawarma Culture, Burger Factory, 2B & Co., Shoppers Drug Mart, Century 21, Axon Property Management, Greer Galloway, Soubliere Constructors, Wartman Funeral Home, Napanee Blooms, St. Lawrence Cruise Lines. Some of those bins have been emptied every week for years.
What keeps them on the route is not price alone. It is that the same crew arrives on the same day, the cardboard never gets left because there was too much of it, and when a Saturday event doubles your volume you text Brock and it is handled.
A national hauler gives you a contract and a call centre. This is a local company where the owner picks up the phone and knows which door your bin is behind.
Common commercial setups
Food service. High-frequency cardboard and containers, often several times a week, timed around service so the truck is not in your way at the lunch rush.
Retail and offices. Weekly fibre and container pickup, with a bigger run after a delivery week or an office clear-out.
Property management. Several addresses on one account, plus turnover pickups between tenants.

Commercial collection, answered
Do you do commercial waste collection in Kingston?
That is most of the business. Restaurants, retail, offices, funeral homes, real estate and property management firms, engineering offices and job sites make up the bulk of the 250+ stops on the weekly route, and several have been on it since 2020.
The City's recycling depot closed. Where does my business take recycling now?
The City of Kingston's Lappan's Lane depot closed permanently on January 1, 2026, and the City's household curbside program does not cover businesses. The City's guidance is that businesses arrange their own recycling collection from a private company. We run that: cardboard, containers and paper kept separate on the truck, picked up as often as your volume needs, invoiced monthly.
How often can a commercial bin be emptied?
As often as it fills. A downtown restaurant that goes through cardboard daily is on a different frequency than an office that fills a bin in a fortnight. Tell Brock what you are producing and he will build the schedule around it rather than selling you a standard one.
Do you handle cardboard volume from a store or restaurant?
Yes, and it is the single most common commercial ask. Flattened cardboard comes off the stop on its own, in whatever quantity the business actually generates, without you having to break it down into a curbside box.
Can we get an invoice instead of paying each visit?
Yes. Commercial accounts are invoiced, and cash, debit, credit and e-transfer all work if you would rather settle per visit. Whatever your bookkeeping wants.
Do you service property managers with multiple buildings?
Yes. Multi-address accounts get run as one route with one point of contact and one invoice, which is usually the reason property managers move over in the first place. Turnover pickups between tenants are booked the same way.
Can you take waste from a job site?
Yes — either as scheduled collection while the job runs, or as a 14-yard bin parked on site that we swap when it is full. Contractors on the route usually end up doing both.
Do you sort commercial recycling?
Yes. Containers, paper and fibre, and cardboard are kept separate on the truck and sorted before anything is hauled. If your business is reporting on diversion, that is the part that matters.
