Kingston junk removal, bin rentals & recycling pickup

Yes — weekly Kingston recycling pickup is the backbone of the route. Blue box containers, grey box paper and fibre, and flattened cardboard all come off your stop on the same set day, for houses, rentals and businesses. Everything gets sorted before the load is hauled, which is the slow part of the day and the reason “Recycle” is in the name.

In Kingston the blue box takes containers — plastic containers, metal cans, glass bottles and jars — and the grey box takes paper and fibre: newspaper, flyers, magazines, office paper and corrugated cardboard, plus plastic bags bundled into one tied bag. City curbside collection alternates between the two week by week, which is the part everybody loses track of. On our route both come off the same stop on the same day, and if something is in the wrong box the crew sorts it at the truck rather than leaving it at the curb with a sticker on it.

The City of Kingston's recycling depot on Lappan's Lane closed permanently on January 1, 2026, so there is no longer a City drop-off for loose cardboard. Homes still get blue and grey box curbside pickup on alternating weeks. For cardboard beyond what fits in the boxes, and for any business, we collect it on the weekly route — and for restaurants and shops with real volume the cardboard bin gets swapped as often as it fills.

Nowhere City-run: the Lappan's Lane depot closed on January 1, 2026, and the City's household curbside program does not cover businesses. Businesses arrange their own recycling collection, which is what our commercial route does — cardboard, containers and paper kept separate, picked up as often as your volume needs, invoiced monthly.

The City's current blue box list includes Styrofoam, with foam packing peanuts the exception, so clean foam packaging can go out with your recycling. The City's What Goes Where tool has the current rules, and they have changed recently, so check it if you are unsure. Foam that is part of a junk removal load — packaging around an appliance, an old cooler, insulation offcuts — goes on our truck either way.

Since July 1, 2025 the City's blue and grey box program has been run by Circular Materials Ontario, with Emterra doing the collecting, so replacement boxes come through them rather than City Hall; the City's recycling page has the details. Yes. Branches, brush, leaves, grass clippings and general garden clearing all go on the truck, either as a one-off after a big weekend in the yard or added onto a regular pickup. Spring and fall are the busy stretch for it, in Kingston and out through Loyalist Township and South Frontenac, so call ahead when you know a clean-up is coming.

Cost depends on how much you have, how heavy it is, and how easy the crew can get to it. Send Brock a photo of the pile and he gives you a real number in a couple of minutes, before anything gets booked. Renting a bin and loading it yourself is cheaper than having the crew do the lifting — both prices come from the same phone call.

No, and not needing to is the whole point. No truck to borrow, no trailer, no afternoon at the landfill, no wondering whether the dump is open. The crew loads it, hauls it, and pulls out what can be recycled or donated on the way.

On the truck. Mattresses and box springs are awkward, they do not fit in a car, and most curbside collection will not take them — which is why a single mattress is one of the most common calls we get. One or ten, it is the same phone call.

Yes. Fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers and water heaters, plus couches, sectionals, bed frames, dressers, dining sets and office furniture. The crew brings the gear to get them up out of a basement, so nothing has to be dragged to the curb first. Anything still in good shape is set aside to donate rather than dumped.

Some electronics need a specific drop-off point rather than the truck, and which ones depends on what you have. Tell Brock when you call — he will say what can be loaded and point you at where the rest should go instead of guessing.

Most calls in and around Kingston get picked up same-day or next-day. A last-minute Airbnb turnover or a move-out deadline is a normal Tuesday for this crew. Further out — Westport, Wolfe Island — it depends on the run and the ferry, and Brock will tell you straight.

Hazardous materials stay off the truck: propane tanks, paint, oil, solvents, and anything flammable or toxic. Tires and some electronics need a specific drop-off point, and Brock tells you where when you call.

Yes. Before anything reaches the landfill, the crew sorts out what can be recycled and pulls aside anything still good enough to donate. That sorting takes extra time on-site, and Brock does it anyway.

Same thing, different word: the bin is a 14-yard dump trailer, dropped where you want it. Most single rooms or garages fill a quarter to a half of it, and a full basement or estate cleanout can fill the whole thing. In most Kingston driveways, yes. It is a trailer rather than a roll-off, so it gets into tighter driveways and laneways and comes back off the surface cleanly. Tell Brock about a narrow lane, a low branch or a steep slope when you book and he will tell you straight if it works.
